Why I Wrote This Book

A personal journey that shaped the principles shared in this guide.

Dear Fellow Investor,

I wasn’t always one of the most successful traders in the world. Twenty years ago, I began trading my parents’ retirement account and in a short period of time managed to lose a sickeningly large amount of their hard-earned savings on a short path to bankruptcy.

Like many traders, I was long on enthusiasm and short on savvy. Everything I thought I knew was wrong and there was so much I didn’t even know I didn’t know!
That traumatic experience led me to invest years of my life studying the best traders and analyzing their every strategy to find the principles of investing that could be applied consistently through structured, repeatable decision-making.

Twenty-six years ago, I began identifying the principles and decision-making frameworks that experienced traders rely on to bring structure and consistency to their trading process.

Many experienced participants approach decision-making differently than the average trader.

Experienced professionals don’t have different abilities than you or I. They face the same fears and uncertainties. The difference is often in how they approach decision-making and risk.

I wasn’t born into the global elite. I grew up and thought I’d spend my life as a whitewater rafting guide. That’s about as far away from Wall Street as you can imagine!

And yet my passion for learning and exploration led me on a journey that ultimately resulted in the discovery of structured, time-tested trading systems focused on repeatability, risk control, and reducing emotional decision-making.

Whether from my homes in Europe or Latin America, visiting friends in the US, or just travelling on a whim, with just the push of a few buttons on my laptop. Today, I rely on structured, rules-based systems to support consistency and reduce emotional decision-making across different market conditions.

I want to share the principles behind that approach with you.

So, I wrote a book detailing how structured, rules-based trading systems are designed, tested, and applied in practice...

I was honored when Tom Basso, known on Wall Street as “Mr. Serenity”, wrote the foreword. Tom spent a hugely successful career in trading, managing his own investment bank, serving on regulatory and advisory boards, and was the author of “Panic Proof Investing”.

Here’s an excerpt of what Tom had to say about “The 30 Minute Stock Trader”:
“Laurens shows some simple examples of how combining together strategies logically should increase the robustness of your overall trading, increase reliability, increase return to risk measures, and help you achieve more long-term success in trading.”

“The 30 Minute Stock Trader” is not your typical investing book. I don’t waste time on vague generalities about fundamentals and abstract concepts. In the book, I walk through how structured, rules-based trading systems are designed and applied, with an emphasis on discipline, risk control, and repeatability.

For example, the book explores topics such as:

  • How structured trading approaches reduce the need for constant chart-watching
  • How rules-based filters can help identify potential trading candidates
  • Why market movements often feel unpredictable — and how systematic methods respond
  • Why successful trading does not depend on exceptional intuition or forecasting ability
  • The limitations of relying solely on traditional fundamentals
  • How predefined rules help manage uncertainty in volatile markets
  • How systematic strategies emphasize process over prediction
  • Why many traders reduce their focus on news-driven decision-making
  • The role of hedging within a structured trading framework
  • How systematic approaches adapt during different market environments
  • How multiple strategies can be combined to reduce reliance on a single approach
  • Why attempting to outsmart the market often leads to emotional mistakes
  • How different strategies align with different risk tolerances and personalities
  • Why long-term decision frameworks matter more than short-term reactions
  • How price-based rules can support consistent entry and exit decisions
These topics are presented for educational purposes and focus on structure, discipline, and decision-making — not predictions or guarantees.

Reader feedback

The book has received positive feedback from readers who value its educational and psychological focus:

“This book helped me better understand the emotional side of trading and how structured approaches can reduce stress and improve clarity. The explanations are clear, practical, and grounded in real experience”

Individual experiences vary. This feedback reflects one reader’s opinion.

A different way to think about trading

Trading can easily become overwhelming — especially when decisions are driven by constant market noise, uncertainty, and emotional reactions.

This book was written to explain how structured, rules-based decision frameworks are designed to help traders:

  • Reduce emotional decision-making
  • Focus on process rather than prediction
  • Spend less time reacting to short-term market moves
  • Build consistency through predefined rules

It does not promise outcomes or lifestyle changes.
It focuses on structure, discipline, and decision-making.

What this means for you

Regardless of background or experience level, understanding structured decision frameworks can help bring greater clarity and confidence to how trading decisions are approached.

Plus…

For a limited time, access to the 30-Minute Stock Trader video course is also included, where the principles discussed in the book are explained through structured examples.

For each of the three trading systems, I share with you:

  • The objective and philosophy behind each strategy
  • How and why the universe of stocks is selected
  • The entry and exit rules used within each framework
  • A review of how the strategies behaved across different market environments since 1995
  • Examples illustrating both favorable and unfavorable periods
  • Ways the strategies can be evaluated and refined over time

And clear, step-by-step explanations of how the concepts discussed can be implemented in practice.

There is no unnecessary filler in these videos. Each lesson walks through the concepts step by step, focusing on how structured, rules-based trading frameworks are designed and applied.

For example, in one video, I explain how a weekly rotation-style approach is evaluated using predefined rules and a small number of repeatable steps.

In another video, I walk through a range of metrics and evaluation tools used to understand how a strategy behaves across different market conditions — including rising, falling, and sideways markets. This includes reviewing both favorable and unfavorable periods to illustrate how rules help manage uncertainty.

I don’t have the space here to describe every lesson in detail, but a former technical trader reviewed the course and described it as one of the most thorough explanations of structured, strategy-specific trading frameworks he had seen.

The video course is designed to complement the book by expanding on the principles, examples, and decision-making processes discussed.

The video course is normally offered separately, but it is currently included at no additional cost.

However, I’m including it at no additional cost today

If you’re a visual learner, this free bonus course will help bring together everything you’ll discover in my book.

With the strategies and rules you’ll learn in my book, and the detailed, behind-the-scenes look at the strategies, you’ll be primed to help you better understand how structured, rules-based decision frameworks are applied in practice based on the principles and frameworks I’ve developed over many years..

So...
